A next-generation nutraceutical ingredient—cleaner, more sustainable, and ready for modern formulation needs.

BOULDER, CO — July 15, 2025 — DMC Biotechnologies (DMC), a leading U.S.-based biomanufacturer, announces the commercial launch of D-chiro-inositol. This new ingredient joins DMC’s growing portfolio of sustainable health actives, produced through fermentation, and now available for health-forward nutraceutical brands in the U.S.

Elevating the Standard Through Fermentation

DMC’s D-chiro-inositol is produced through a proprietary precision fermentation that is solvent-free, has a higher assurance of purity, and is significantly more sustainable than the incumbent process.

“We’re proud to introduce fermented D-chiro-inositol as a next generation ingredient for brands committed to clean and sustainable products” said Rusty Pittman, VP of Business Development at DMC. “In addition, consumers increasingly care how products are made—with fermentation emerging as a preferred alternative to chemical processing.”

D-Chiro-Inositol is a Key Ingredient for Supplements Targeting Metabolic Health and Ovarian Function

D-chiro-inositol is a naturally occurring isomer of inositol that is a popular ingredient in women’s health supplements and is often chosen to support menstrual, ovarian, and hormonal health, as well as maintain healthy insulin levels.1 D-chiro-inositol also has emerging applications in men’s health supplements. For instance, a recent clinical study showed D-chiro-inositol increased serum testosterone level in men by 23%.2

Building a Nutraceutical Portfolio and Sustainable Future

BOULDER, CO — May 6, 2025 — DMC Biotechnologies, a leading U.S.-based biomanufacturer, is pleased to announce the commercial launch of fermented myo-inositol. This next-generation ingredient is now available for health-focused brands and formulators seeking high-quality, naturally produced, sustainable solutions, with improved supply resilience.

Elevating the Standard Through Fermentation

DMC’s fermentation-derived myo-inositol is produced through a natural, solvent-free process that ensures superior purity and reduces environmental impact. Traditional chemical synthesis of myo-inositol uses harsh chemical processes, feedstock more susceptible to impurities, and significant energy for refining. Fermented myo-inositol meets the increasing demand from consumers, brands, and formulators for clean-label, responsibly sourced ingredients.

“We’re proud to introduce a cleaner, more sustainable source of myo-inositol—an essential nutrient that supports glucose management, reproductive health, and infant development,” said Rusty Pittman, VP of Business Development at DMC. “Fermented myo-inositol is more naturally produced, better for the environment and offers higher assurance of purity and consistent quality – important benefits for all health ingredients. We are particularly grateful to the leading brands that supported this initiative with valuable product insights and early supply commitments.”

Building a Nutraceutical Portfolio and Sustainable Future

“Myo-inositol marks DMC’s entry into the nutraceutical space,” said Jim Flatt, CEO of DMC. “We’re excited to follow it with a second ingredient later this year—the beginning of a broader portfolio of nutraceutical and cosmetic actives we are building. These two product introductions are clear examples of DMC’s ability to meet the growing market demand for sustainable products in a timely and cost-efficient manner.”

This launch is aligned with DMC’s mission to deliver naturally produced, cleaner ingredients and sustainable chemicals that decarbonize and secure supply chains and do so with economic viability.

A Critical Nutrient for Human Health

Myo-inositol, a naturally occurring sugar in the human body, plays a key role in cell signaling, insulin response, and neurotransmitter function, making it essential across various life stages and health conditions. With significant growth across key dietary supplement, infant nutrition, and functional food markets, a naturally produced, cleaner, and sustainable source of myo-inositol is more important than ever.

Myo-Inositol Provides Clinically Proven Health and Wellness Benefits

Metabolic Health
Supports insulin signaling and glucose metabolism, aiding in conditions like insulin resistance, type 2 and gestational diabetes, and metabolic syndrome.

Reproductive Health
Used in fertility and women’s health formulations to support hormonal balance, ovulation, and egg quality—especially for those with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).

Infant Nutrition
Found naturally in breast milk, myo-inositol is a required ingredient in infant formula and is believed to support infant brain development and neurotransmitter function.

Center for Sustainable Materials – Parc Cataroux (Clermont-Ferrand)

PARIS, FRANCE (June 12, 2024) – Two major French industrial leaders Danone and Michelin, the American start-up DMC Biotechnologies and Crédit Agricole Centre France, a key investor in the region, have agreed to create the Biotech Open Platform to bolster the development of advanced fermentation processes, particularly precision fermentation, on a larger scale. Precision fermentation is a revolutionary biotechnological process to produce bio-based materials and ingredients.

With an investment of over 16 million euro in the first phase, the industrial and technological platform will be located in Clermont-Ferrand within the Parc Cataroux Center for Sustainable Materials, an innovation accelerator supported by Michelin. The Biotech Open Platform is also supported by several public and private institutions: the University of Clermont Auvergne, the company Greentech, the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Region under the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and Clermont Auvergne Métropole.

As industry looks for alternatives to fossil-based resources, it is turning to innovative and sustainable solutions to meet its supply needs while providing more efficient materials. Biotechnology – and particularly precision fermentation – is one of the most promising ways to meet this challenge. Precision fermentation is a cutting-edge technology that uses microorganisms like bacteria, yeast or fungi to produce proteins, enzymes and other molecules that are used in industry. It is particularly suited to innovation in the agri-food and materials sectors. Although fundamental research has made considerable progress, biotechnologies must now be developed on a larger scale.

The Biotech Open Platform’s ambition is to accelerate the development of precision fermentation by enabling the scale-up of innovative products and processes already tested in the laboratory. By 2025, the project plans to install an initial demo-scale production line, including a fermenter and purification equipment. Additional equipment will be installed in the following years, including a second production line. This ramp-up will enable the platform to meet the scale-up needs of its founders and to gradually open it up to other companies facing the challenge of scaling up in the industrial biomanufacturing sector.

Florent Menegaux, President of the Michelin group: “ The Michelin group is pleased to announce the creation, with its partners, of the Biotech Open Platform – a unique tool that will enhance the development of bio-sourced materials, a key challenge for the industry of tomorrow. Located in Auvergne, it exemplifies Michelin’s unflagging commitment to developing innovation and the regions where the Group operates.”

Antoine de Saint-Affrique, CEO of Danone: “At Danone, we have always been focused on investing in the future of food, and this partnership is the next step in this journey. We look forward to working with our partners to develop cutting-edge fermentation technologies which will accelerate innovation, health benefits and decarbonization in the food industry. We are proud to be part of this collective effort and to strengthen our contribution to meet the challenges facing the industry today.”

Kenny Erdoes, CEO of DMC: “We are enthusiastic about this new partnership with companies that are at the heart of French life. For us, as an American start-up, the development of the new Biotech Open Platform will enable us to accelerate the scale-up and commercialization of new products leveraging our transformative fermentation technology.”

Frédéric Baraut, CEO of Crédit Agricole Centre France: “Crédit Agricole Centre France is taking steps to support transformation and innovation in the region. By contributing to the Biotech Open Platform, we are helping to develop a new bio-based sector based in Clermont-Ferrand and also adding to the value and the attractiveness of the region. This will also help provide opportunities and synergies to the start-ups in our Innovation Village, also in the Parc Cataroux.”

Simplifying Biology for Scale

Microbes have evolved over millennia to respond to their environments as a means of survival. While that may be advantageous for survival in the wild, it has created the need for significant work in process development in the industrial environment.

It was a challenge that DMC Biotechnologies founders Dr. Matthew Lipscomb and Dr. Mike Lynch, chemical engineers who met in grad school, were all too familiar with. Having experienced first hand the labors, frustrations, and challenges of engineering biology, they were inspired to develop a better approach that addressed these challenges: Dynamic Metabolic Control™.

DMC’s technology uses a standardized, two-stage fermentation process that decouples the growth of the microbe from production of the desired product.

In traditional bioprocessing, the individual strains used for each production process require unique process development at each scale and are sensitive to even minor changes in the physical properties of the fermentation broth such as temperature, pH and dissolved oxygen (DO), which are unavoidable at commercial scale.

DMC’s precision fermentation technology limits the ability of the microbe to respond to the environment, simplifying biology and enabling predictable scale-up. This process creates the opportunity to reimagine how everyday products are made with applications that range from personal care to nutrition to the composite materials that we rely on every day.

A True Technology Platform

https://dmcbio.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/DMC-Technology.mp4

With DMC, the strain is more robust to the process environment, eliminating the need to develop a new process for each new strain, product, or scale. DMC’s platform enables bioprocesses that can tolerate a greater range of industrial process conditions, resulting in fewer lost batches and better economics than other approaches.

DMC further simplifies biomanufacturing by using a standardized set of equipment, operations, microbes and feedstocks. The frequent failure of small-scale screening studies to readily translate to larger-scale production processes has been a major factor inhibiting the commercialization of fermentation processes.

On the contrary, by combining standardization and process robustness DMC’s technology creates a pathway to predictable performance through a true platform technology that can produce bio-based chemicals for every product and at every scale.

Scaling to Commercial Success

DMC’s Made to Scale™ platform powers the efficient commercialization of bio-based chemicals, taking concepts to products quicker and more cost effectively than the traditional approach, which remains artisanal and exorbitantly costly.

By 2020, DMC Biotechnologies had produced four products with commercial performance metrics and demonstrated at scale (3000L scale fermentation). It has also brought its lead product, L-alanine, to 85,000L scale fermentation and has a full pipeline of products, with markets such as intermediate chemicals, nutrition, and personal and home care, among others. All of this was accomplished with an investment of less than $15 million – faster and more economical than any other technology in the field.

DMC Biotechnologies is now growing a pipeline of bio-based chemicals that it will deploy over the coming decade to meet the urgent need of faster and more cost effective success in biomanufacturing.

By addressing key barriers and streamlining product development with standardized, predictable and robust methods, DMC is creating a dramatic reduction of time-to-market and costs, transforming traditional product and chemical development that is better for consumers, and better for mitigating climate change.

22 March 2023 – DMC Biotechnologies is delighted to have been given the opportunity to pitch in front of P&G Fabric and Home Care and more than 80 of their top suppliers at the company’s Sustainability, Equality & Inclusion Supplier Summit hosted at P&G’s Innovation Centre in Brussels.

Rusty Pittman, VP of Business Development, will pitch DMC’s precision fermentation technology and lead products at the event. DMC’s technology has been proven to address key barriers in the field and is the only approach that is Made to Scale™. This fits well with P&G’s approach to sustainable innovation because it is rooted in science, enables superior sustainability, and strengthens their supply chains to ensure business continuity in these increasingly volatile times.

The event is part of the “Cleaner, Better Together” programme that has been launched by P&G’s Fabric and Home Care division last year and aims to promote joint value creation by driving irresistible and sustainable superiority in partnership with top suppliers.

“P&G Fabric and Home Care are on a mission to decarbonize laundry while delighting consumers with irresistible superior product performance. We already have strong partnerships in place, but we don’t have all the answers yet, which is why we are calling on all moonshot thinkers – inventors, innovators, academics, start-ups, big and small companies – to help us innovate. The Supplier Summit in Brussels gives us, and our suppliers, a great opportunity to connect with potential new partners that could help us decarbonize the entire supply chain,” said Sundar Raman, Fabric and Home Care CEO.

DMC is thrilled to have been recognized as one of the select moonshot thinkers and we are looking forward to forming connections with P&G Fabric Care and their suppliers at this important summit.

Matt Lipscomb, Ph.D., CEO & Co-Founder of DMC said, “Decarbonizing consumer goods requires scale. DMC has the only technology platform that is Made to Scale™. P&G is a household name in Home Care and provides access to massive channel scale for their products. We’re pleased to have the opportunity to showcase our products and technology as part of the P&G Supplier Summit and look forward to building end-to-end supply chains that deliver on scale, decarbonization, and exceeding customer expectations.”
